Microfinance is recognized as an effective development intervention in enhancing access to financial services for low-income and poverty-level individuals. While there is great demand for microfinance services, the main constraint is not a lack of funds but a lack of capacity in operating a sustainable institution. To address this problem, the Asian Development Bank Institute (ADBI), the World Bank Tokyo Development Learning Center (TDLC), which is a member of GDLN Asia Pacific, and the United Nations Capital Development Fund (UNCDF) launched the Microfinance Training of Trainers (MFTOT) Course in 2005. The interactive microfinance distance learning course (MFDL) developed by UNCDF is the core learning material for study. Please visit http://mftot.jointokyo.org/ if you are interested in this course.
The course is a product of a collaboration from the then members of the GDLN East Asia Pacific Association (EAPA) who have identified the following challenges that faces the members of the GDLN Center teams in the performance of their work. Thus, in order to develop and upgrade skills of new and existing DLC management and staff to deliver quality service as a network to clients, a regional, comprehensive training approach is therefore urgently required. As part of the blended approach, the e-Learning package is developed for self-study at learner's pace.
The workshop will familiarize you with the videoconferencing facility and technology through simulation, guide your preparation, and enhance your skills of moderation and presentation in a videoconference session. It is a hands-on VC simulation.
The 5-week blended course jointly offered by the University of Southern Queensland (USQ) and the Tokyo Development Learning Center (TDLC) aims to update your notion of the essential components of e-Learning and enhance your skills in designing e-Learning programs in a short time frame.

With serious concern over the incidences of climate-induced disasters, the "Climate and Disaster Resilience Initiative" (CDRI) was started in 2008, led by Kyoto University in cooperation with CityNet and UNISDR. There are research, education, training and implementation components to the CDRI, and the above-mentioned members jointly handle “City Profile” work. The “City Profile” is a study that looks at different dimensions of urban communities, with their existing levels of climate disaster resilience. Its purpose is to understand the problems and issues that would severely affect outcomes in the event of a disaster. The measure of the current level of a city itself is important in its own context. This will be used to capitalize the resilience of urban communities. In this way, the methodology of city profiles becomes a more powerful tool if used for action planning and implementation in numerous Asian urban communities. And with this background, the CDRI Capacity-building program was designed as a comprehensive, action-oriented learning and training package and program.
World Bank Institute, Asian Institute of Management and Tokyo Development Learning center offers the CSR course from May 17-19, 2009.
As oil prices remain high and global financial turbulence worsens, the world economy faces heightened risks and uncertainty. High and volatile oil prices threaten economies of oil-exporting and oil-importing developing countries in very different ways, and pose long term challenges to poverty, inequality, social stability and environmental sustainability. Policymakers the world over are looking for information and analysis on oil-price dynamics as well as instruments for risk management.
